Making your modern lamp

Remove the old lampshade. Take it shopping with you because you buy one that fits your lamp. Choose an ultra-modern lampshade in a color that complements your room decor. Square lamp shades are very modern looking and work well for this project. The color you use depends on the material your lamp is made of. If your lamp base is wood, spray paint works well. If your lamp is glass, look for a color made for glass.

Paint your mid century lamps base first. Paint it a solid color or add decorative details and patterns with additional colors. If you choose to make a pattern, it is best to use a stencil. Paint your lamp base a solid color and allow it to dry overnight. Attach your stencil with tape where you want the pattern to be. Paint inside the template area. Allow this coat of paint to dry for several hours. Remove the template. The last step is to put new lampshade on the lamp.
